NI: Belfast barrister Iryna Kennedy to be released from hospital
A prominent Belfast-based barrister is due to be released from hospital after falling unwell during a race, The Irish News reports.
Iryna Kennedy, a member of the Bar Library, collapsed on Saturday after running around 32 miles of the Energia Belfast 24-hour race.
Ms Kennedy came to the medical centre on the course “where her condition deteroriated”, according to organiser Ed Smith. She was transferred to the Royal Victoria Hospital.
A spokesperson for the hospital told The Irish News yesterday that Ms Kennedy was due to be released.
Mr Smith said: “The care of the athletes during a 24-hour event of this nature is of paramount importance to us.
“The medical team worked to plan and everything that was required was available. The Local Organising Committee will review all our medical procedures, learn from them and carry out any recommendations that are made.”
