NI: Belfast lawyers prepare for fourth annual Belfast Pride bloc
Northern Ireland lawyers are preparing to join Lawyers with Pride at Belfast Pride for a fourth year running.
Lawyers with Pride was set up in 2016 to “ensure that the LGBT community know that they can access justice without fear or bias”.
As well as taking part in the parade on Saturday 3 August, the group has organised a Belfast Pride Law Lecture to be delivered by Professor Paul Johnson, an expert on the the relationship between law, human rights and sexual orientation.
Professor Johnson is head of the Department of Sociology at University of York and has published books including Homosexuality and the European Court of Human Rights (Routledge, 2014) and Going to Strasbourg: An Oral History of Sexual Orientation Discrimination and the European Convention on Human Rights (Oxford University Press, 2016).
The free lecture at Queen’s University Belfast on Thursday 1 August, 5.30pm, is titled “Popularism, Sexual Orientation Discrimination and the European Convention on Human Rights”.
