Billionaire pays record £453m divorce settlement
A billionaire has been ordered to pay £453 million to his ex-wife in the UK’s biggest divorce award.
Mr Justice Haddon-Cave, sitting in the Family Division of the High Court in London yesterday, awarded her 41.5 per cent of the couple’s £1 billion “marital assets”.
He said the woman, 44, whose legal team was led by Baroness Shackleton of Belgravia, had made an equal contribution to the anonymous couple’s 20-year marriage, The Times reports.
Her ex-husband was unrepresented in court, failing to attend hearings in breach of multiple orders.
The award outstrips the previous record of £330 million to Jamie Cooper-Hohn, ex-wife of financier Sir Chris Hohn.
