Carlow courthouse railings to be repaired this year
Work to refurbish the railings in Carlow courthouse is set to take place this year, fifteen years after it was first planned.
Justice Minister Frances Fitzgerald said the Courts Service of Ireland is aware of the poor condition of the railings in the courthouse.
Restoration work was set to take place as part of the courthouse refurbishment completed in 2002, but did not proceed because of “local opposition to the proposed realignment of the railings”.
However, the Courts Service has maintained its commitment to restoring the railings and has been engaging with the Office of Public Works over the past two years to advance the work.
Background work, including technical appraisals and experimental repairs, has now been carried out and the Courts Service plans to begin the restoration work “later this year”.
