Carndonagh solicitor firm hit by devastating flood
Valuable archives and documents at the offices of Patrick J O’Doherty Solicitors in Carndonagh have been destroyed in a flood.
Around ten feet of water flooded the office when the nearby Glentogher river burst its banks.
As well as files, the building’s heating system and phone and Internet connections were ruined by the flood, which the firm says will cost thousands of euros to repair.
Solicitor Katherine O’Doherty told the Irish Independent: “I had so many archives and documents left there from when I bought the premises in the 1980s, which were all washed away, and those that didn’t enter the river were steeped in dirty water for several hours.”
Ms O’Doherty said she was unable to insure the office because of its proximity to the Glentogher river.
However, she added: “It’s my office where I work and practise as a solicitor, but at least I’m not homeless.
“People are in a far worse situation than myself and I hope the Government can do all they can for them.”
