NI: Carson McDowell partners with Ulster University journalism course
Belfast-based Carson McDowell recently partnered with the MA Masters in Journalism team at Ulster University (Coleraine) to give the next generation of journalists a taste of the varied potential legal issues facing journalists, publishers and broadcasters in the digital age.
Fergal McGoldrick, solicitor in the firm’s media team, drew on his experience in defamation, privacy, contempt and IPSO regulation to present students with an insight into media law in practice.
Mr McGoldrick provided real-life examples to complement the legal theory they have learned throughout the Master’s Degree.
Milne Rowntree, lecturer on the MA Masters in Journalism, said: “It was great for our students to hear from a professional working at the coalface of media law, bringing to life the topics they have studied as part of the legal component of the Master’s Degree and associated National Council for the Training of Journalists Diploma in Journalism.”
Mr McGoldrick added: “We were very pleased to be invited to share our knowledge with the students of the award winning MA in Journalism at Ulster, as part of the firm’s ongoing commitment to corporate social responsibility in Northern Ireland.”
