NI: Carson McDowell trainees visit charity facility
Two members of Belfast firm Carson McDowell’s charity committee have visited Daisy Lodge, Cancer Fund for Children’s therapeutic short-break facility.
Trainee solicitors Harry Robinson and Zara Treacy heard how the money raised from an abseil in 2015 has helped make a difference to local families living with cancer.
Ana Wilkinson, corporate fundraiser at Cancer Fund for Children, said: “We are really grateful to the team at Carson McDowell who took part in the abseil and raised over £950 to support Cancer Fund for Children’s work.
“Cancer Fund for Children receive less than 0.3% Government Funding and so we rely on the support of local companies and individuals to provide our services. It was a pleasure to show Harry and Zara around Daisy Lodge, the charity’s therapeutic short break centre in Newcastle County Down, to give them a glimpse of how vital support like Carson McDowell’s is to so many local families.
“Every week in Northern Ireland, three more families will hear the devastating news that their child (aged 0-24 years) has cancer. For these families the future is uncertain and worrying as they face physical, emotional and financial challenges.
“As the leading children’s cancer charity in NI, Cancer Fund for Children understands the devastating impact a cancer diagnosis and treatment can have on the whole family and that beyond essential medical care there is a family life that needs to be rebuilt.”
