Case of ex-solicitor who admitted €260k theft to be reheard

An ex-solicitor who admitted stealing €260,000 from a client will not be sentenced this month as planned, due to a judicial conflict of interest.

Jacqueline Durcan, 47, was due to be sentenced in Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, The Irish Times reports.

However, Judge Melanie Greally, who heard the case, became aware that a member of her wider family was known to Ms Durcan’s family.

Evidence in the case will now be heard again before Judge Patricia Ryan on 2 December 2016.
