Solicitor Catherine Pierse has been appointed by ministers as Ireland’s next director of public prosecutions.
Ms Pierse, currently head of the prosecution support services division in the DPP’s office, will succeed Claire Loftus following the completion of her term of office at the end of next week.

Before this, she worked as a criminal defence solicitor, having qualified as a solicitor in 2001 following her education at University College Cork (UCC) and Queen’s University Belfast (QUB).
