Charity Appeals Tribunal to make first-ever ruling
The Charity Appeals Tribunal is to hear and adjudicate on the first-ever appeal against a decision of the Charities Regulator since it was established in 2016.
The statutory body was established in August 2016 to hear and adjudicate on appeals against certain decisions of the Charities Regulator, under section 45 of the Charities Act 2009.
It sat for the first time in 2019 to consider an application which it eventually ruled as out of jurisdiction.
The tribunal only has limited jurisdiction over some decisions of the Charities Regulator, though both the regulator and government have said they want to see it take on more appeals which currently go to the High Court.
The tribunal is chaired by Mayo solicitor Pat O’Connor, while the ordinary members are Carol Fawsitt, Karen Horgan, Nuala E. Dockry and Bill Holohan SC.
