Charity investigation powers to come into force by September
New powers allowing the Charities Regulator to investigate financial mismanagement will come into effect by early September, The Irish Times reports.
According to the paper, Department of Justice sources have confirmed part 4 of the Charities Act 2009 will be implemented within two months, providing for new powers of investigation and enforcement.
Implementation has been brought forward to restore confidence in the charity sector following the widely-reported resignation of Console CEO Paul Kelly in relation to financial mismanagement.
Justice Minister France Fitzgerald reportedly met with Charities Regulator John Farrelly on Thursday to discuss issues arising from the controversy.
