Children’s ombudsman reappointed for further six years
Children’s Ombudsman Dr Niall Muldoon has been reappointed for a further six-year term.
The statutory ombudsman promotes the rights and welfare of children; examines and investigates complaints about services provided to children and young people; and provides advice regarding children’s rights and conducts research on relevant issues.
Welcoming the reappointment, Children’s Minister Roderic O’Gorman said: “Since taking up the post of Ombudsman for Children six years ago, Dr Muldoon has led the Office of the Ombudsman for Children very effectively and has been a strong and necessary advocate for children.”
He highlighted Dr Muldoon’s work to ensure children within the Direct Provision system can access his services, which was not previously the case, and his central role in developing and setting up the Barnahus One House Pilot in Galway.
Mr O’Gorman added: “I look forward to the Ombudsman for Children continuing to promote the welfare and rights of all children in Ireland during his second term of office.”
