Ciaran Murphy KC awarded CBE in New Year honours list
Northern Ireland barrister Ciaran Murphy KC has been named as a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) for services to criminal justice.
Mr Murphy is one of only two people in Northern Ireland awarded a CBE in the UK’s latest annual New Year honours list.
He is a senior prosecutor in the Public Prosecution Service (PPS) and has appeared in a number of high-profile criminal prosecutions in recent years.
Solicitor Leona O’Neil, who founded cancer charity The Boom Foundation after her fiancé died with sarcoma, was awarded an MBE for services to charitable fundraising for people with sarcoma.
The UK publishes honours lists twice a year — at New Year and on the King’s official birthday.
