Co Cork councillors invited to propose uses for Youghal courthouse
County Cork councillors have been invited to propose uses for the disused courthouse building in Youghal, the Irish Examiner reports.
The Courts Service of Ireland said it would take on board any suggestions for the listed courthouse building at Market Square, which has not been used in almost two decades.
It said it was in line with its policy “to make such unused former courthouses available for other community or public uses”.
It said it was “open to approaches from the local authorities to discuss the transfer of this building for other public uses if they have need of it”.
Independent Councillor Mary Linehan-Foley, who lives in Youghal, told the Irish Examiner: “Nothing has been formally considered but discussions will occur after the councillors’ August recess.”
Proposed uses for the building have included a local museum.
