Coleraine pupils win Bar Mock Trial regional heat
Pupils from Coleraine Grammar School have won the Northern Ireland regional heat of the annual Bar Mock Trial Competition and will progress to the UK final in London next year.
The Bar Mock Trial Competition aims to help young people understand how the law touches every aspect of their lives, gaining an insight into how the legal justice system works.
The Coleraine team will now compete for the overall UK prize at a final in the Old Bailey in London in March 2024.
The Bar of Northern Ireland said: “The standard of the competition this year was particularly high with the students showing exceptionally strong oral advocacy skills
“The Bar of NI would like to recognise all of the participating schools and students, showing impressive advocacy skills and work ethic.”
The regional heat in Belfast also included a Q&A session with judges and the Bar of NI’s chair Moira Smyth KC on pathways into the legal profession.
“Many thanks to the students who took part in the Mock Trial, their teachers and barrister mentors and the judges and KCs who acted as mock trial judges on the day,” the Bar added.
