Conor McGregor sued in US over alleged sexual assault
A woman in the United States has launched civil proceedings against Conor McGregor in connection with an alleged sexual assault in 2023, which he denies.
The case, filed on Tuesday in the US District Court for the Southern District of Florida, concerns an alleged incident following a basketball game in Miami on 9 June 2023.
A criminal complaint was previously filed with Miami police on 11 June 2023, but prosecutors reportedly decided not to bring charges against Mr McGregor.
Jim Dunn, the woman’s lawyer, told ESPN: “My client has thought long and hard about the decision to pursue this civil case, and is fearful of the effect it may have on her job on Wall Street.
“Nonetheless, her main goal in filing this suit is to raise awareness and encourage others to report sexual assault.”
Mr McGregor’s lawyer, Barbara Llanes, said: “After a thorough investigation at the time, the State’s Attorney concluded that there was no case to pursue.
“Almost two years and at least three lawyers later the plaintiff has a new false story. We are confident that this case too will be dismissed.”
