NI: Couple win humanist wedding case before High Court
The High Court in Belfast has ruled in favour of a couple who sought permission for a legally-binding humanist wedding ceremony.
Mr Justice Colton quashed the General Register Office’s decision to refuse an application for authorisation for a humanist marriage on the grounds that it breached the applicant’s rights under the European Convention.
He ordered the GRO to grant the application, which will give temporary authorisation for a celebrant to perform a legally valid and binding humanist wedding ceremony.
