Court sittings to remain in Roscommon during courthouse works
Court sittings will continue to take place in an alternative venue in Roscommon Town during the refurbishment of the town’s courthouse, the Courts Service has confirmed.
Denis Naughten, independent TD for Roscommon, told Midwest Radio that he had been assured that premises had been sourced for District Court and Circuit Court sittings to take place in the town.
Local politicians and lawyers had previously voiced concerns that court users would have to travel out to neighbouring towns in order to attend court sittings during planned refurbishment works.
A full refurbishment of Roscommon Courthouse is planned in the medium-term under the Government’s National Development Plan 2018-2027, but short-term repairs are expected to keep the existing building in use for longer.
Around €500,000 will be spent repairing the courthouse roof following the recent collapse of a ceiling a jury room, and around €450,000 will be spent on electrical works, Shannonside FM reported earlier.
