Commercial barrister Dr David Sharpe BL has been named the UK’s Barrister of the Year by Finance Monthly Magazine, a global publication for the corporate financial sector.

The Finance Monthly Law Awards 2016 celebrates excellence and success across the legal industry.

Mr Sharpe was called to The Bar of Northern Ireland in 1991 and practices law in numerous jurisdictions. Before becoming a barrister David worked as a doctor and maintains an interest in healthcare law.

He was congratulated on the award by Gerry McAlinden, Chairman of the Bar Council of Northern Ireland.

Mr McAlinden said: “This is a wonderful achievement for David and showcases internationally the expertise and talent within The Bar of Northern Ireland. It is clear that we continue to offer some of the best commercial lawyers in the UK and our barristers are competing with the best on a global stage. Barrister of the Year is a great success, particularly when bestowed by a leading financial publication.”
