Deirdre-Ann Barr appointed as chair of Irish Blood Transfusion Service
Solicitor Deirdre-Ann Barr has been appointed as chairperson of the Irish Blood Transfusion Service (IBTS).
Ms Barr previously worked as general counsel and head of risk in Matheson and has been a member of the board of the IBTS since March 2019.
She is currently chairperson of the clinical governance committee of the Royal Hospital in Donnybrook, and a member of the board of directors of the Peter McVerry Trust.
Ms Barr was also a member of the Company Law Review Group from 2008 to 2018, and worked closely with the Department of Business, Enterprise and Innovation on drafting the Companies Act 2014 and related legislation.
She has ben appointed by health minister Stephen Donnelly as chairperson of the IBTS for a three-year term until 22 June 2025.
Established in 1965, the IBTS is the statutory body with responsibility for the national blood supply.
