Arthur Cox lawyer Deirdre Cummins has been appointed as chairperson of the Pensions Council.

The Pensions Council, An Chomhairle Pinsean, advises the minister for social protection on matters relating to policy on pensions.

It is tasked with representing and protecting the consumer interest, and helping to ensure that the system has a strong consumer focus.

Ms Cummins is an of counsel in Arthur Cox’s pensions and employee benefits group.

She has over 15 years’ experience as a solicitor in private practice, advising on all aspects of Irish pension arrangements both in the private and public sectors.

She is a member and former chairperson of the Association of Pension Lawyers in Ireland (APLI) and a member of the International Pension and Employee Benefits Lawyers Association (IPEBLA).

Ms Cummins has lectured on the Law Society’s certificate course in pension law and practice and has tutored on pensions and related matters on the professional courses of the Law Society.
