Delayed report into Northern Ireland prisons to be published next year
A delayed review of care and supervision units (CSUs) operated by the Northern Ireland Prison Service will now be published next year, justice minister Naomi Long has said.
Criminal Justice Inspection Northern Ireland (CJINI) was asked by Mrs Long in November 2020 to conduct a review following an investigation by The Detail into the use of solitary confinement in CSUs.
The final report would have been published in June under an indicative timetable published in January.
Mrs Long confirmed this week that the Department of Justice has received a draft report for factual accuracy review and has returned a response to the watchdog.
“It is important to wait for the Inspectorate to publish the outcome of their review which I understand will take place in the New Year,” she added.
