Delayed review of probate system due by end of 2017
The delayed review of the probate system will be completed before the end of the year, Justice Minister Charlie Flanagan has said.
It comes amid continuing concern from the Courts Service of Ireland about backlogs in the system.
Earlier this year, then Justice Minister Frances Fitzgerald ordered a review in a bid to eliminate the backlog and reduce waiting times for grant of probate applications.
She said a report with recommendations would be presented to the Courts Service “by mid 2017” - but it has yet to materialise.
Answering a written parliamentary question, Mr Flanagan said: “The Courts Service has advised that the review of the probate system is ongoing and that it is anticipated that a report will be completed before the end of 2017 for presentation to the senior management team of the Courts Service and to the Courts Service Board.”
