Department of Justice offers pay deal to gardaí
The Department of Justice has offered a pay deal to gardaí following three months of negotiations with the Garda Representative Association (GRA).
Among the provisions of the deal are the restoration of the €4,000 rent allowance for newly-recruited gardaí, RTÉ News reports.
The union’s central executive committee will now discuss the outcome of talks and decide whether or not to put the deal to members.
Justice Minister Frances Fitzgerald (pictured) is hoping to avoid a strike over the Lansdowne Road Agreement, which the GRA rejected.
The results of a strike ballot are expected to be known by Tuesday.
In a statement, the Department confirmed “that agreement was reached with the GRA on Friday which if approved by its members will bring the GRA within the terms of the Lansdowne Road Agreement.
“As part of the agreement the rent allowance of over €4,000 will be restored for recent recruits and for anyone considering joining An Garda Síochána in the current recruitment campaign.”
