NI: Department of Justice to consult on ten per cent increase in civil court fees
The Department of Justice has launched a public consultation on proposals for a ten per cent increase on all fees in the civil courts from April 2019.
The consultation document also sets out proposals for a number of new fees, including the introduction of a fee for a review hearing in the High Court; hearing, application and administrative fees in the Small Claims Court; and a specific fee for the Lis Pendens procedure.
The Northern Ireland Courts and Tribunals Service (NICTS) estimates that the proposals would generate additional income of £2.5 million by the end of 2019/20.
If so, the proposals would increase cost recovery from the current position of 82 per cent to approximately 90 per cent by the end of 2019/20.
The consultation will close on 18 February 2019.
