Derry and Downpatrick courts to return home
Crown Court jury trials will take place in Derry and Downpatrick again from September for the first time since the pandemic.
The Department of Justice told BBC News NI that the completion of reconfiguration works by the Northern Ireland Courts and Tribunals Service (NICTS) would now allow Crown Court business to return.
Since 2020, Derry Crown Court trials have taken place in Coleraine and Downpatrick Crown Court trials have taken place in Belfast.
A spokesperson for the DoJ said: “Non-jury Crown Court business returned to Bishop Street and Downpatrick last year and the refreshed Northern Ireland Courts and Tribunal Service venue safety guidance for spring and summer 2023 has facilitated the return of Crown Court jury business to Londonderry and Downpatrick in September.”
