Global law firm DLA Piper is celebrating five years since launching its Irish office, which now has a headcount of 115 including 20 partners and 13 legal directors.

The firm says it will formally mark the anniversary at its Transatlantic Summit in The Round Room at the Mansion House on Wednesday, which will be attended by more than 300 business leaders from Ireland and the US.

DLA Piper, the largest integrated law firm in the world by headcount and the fourth largest by turnover, opened its Dublin office at the start of 2019.

Since then, it has established itself as a full-service firm with clients ranging from multinational, Fortune 500 enterprises and Irish-owned businesses to emerging companies developing industry-leading technologies and governments looking to navigate legal landscapes across continents.

Its pro bono work in Ireland includes delivering a Know Your Rights programme in partnership with the Irish Refugee Council and supporting groups like the United for Changes initiative, which seeks to integrate temporary displaced Ukrainians into Irish society, with a particular focus on professional growth.

The DLA Piper Transatlantic Summit on Wednesday will include a keynote speech by Paschal Donohoe, the minister for public expenditure, NDP delivery and reform, as well as a range of panel discussions covering topics including legal trends for in-house GCs, AI, innovation, leadership, ESG, international business and geopolitics.

David Carthy, country managing partner at DLA Piper Ireland, said: “Today is another defining moment for the DLA Piper business in Ireland. Since our arrival in 2019, the firm has evolved from a new entrant to the fastest-growing legal brand in Ireland with a team of over 115 people, including 20 partners and 13 legal directors.

“We are exceptionally proud of our growth story, and today we are reaffirming our commitment to the continued growth of our business in Ireland.”

He continued: “We will officially mark and celebrate five years of DLA Piper in Ireland at the DLA Piper Transatlantic Summit.

“The event will deliver insights from prominent business leaders from Ireland and around the world and will be attended more than 80 DLA Piper partners from the US, UK, Europe and Australia providing a unique and exclusive forum for attendees and speakers to delve into key issues, exchange insights, and uncover new opportunities within the transatlantic business landscape.”

“Together with my DLA Piper Ireland partners, I would like to thank our international colleagues for their continued support and the wider Ireland team for their tireless dedication and entrepreneurial spirit. I would also like to thank our clients for trusting and supporting us over the past five years.

“This has been an incredible journey thus far, and as we continue to scale in Ireland, we will continue to build a team of talented and diverse lawyers with specialised skills to service clients’ changing needs.”

Michael Lohan, CEO of the IDA, said: “I would like to congratulate DLA Piper on five years in Dublin and for their contribution to the legal services sector that we have here in Ireland. I look forward to their continued growth and development here and wish them every success.”
