Doireann O’Mahony joins Normanton Chambers
Irish barrister Doireann O’Mahony has joined Normanton Chambers in London while retaining her practice at the Irish bar.
Ms O’Mahony called to the bar of England and Wales in 2018 and specialises in clinical negligence, with a particular focus on birth injuries.
She will continue to be based in Dublin, where she has practised as a barrister since 2012, acting principally for claimants in clinical disputes.
A second edition of Ms O’Mahony’s legal textbook Medical Negligence and Childbirth was published by Bloomsbury in January, and she recently became an accredited mediator.
Ms O’Mahony told Irish Legal News: “I was delighted to be invited to join Normanton, particularly in this year as we are celebrating the centenary of the call of the first two women to the Irish Bar in 1921.
“It is great that women in law are given such opportunities now, and I hope similar openings will be provided for other members of the talented pool of young women at the Irish Bar.”
Normanton Chambers, founded in 2019, is the first barristers’ chambers named after a woman. It is named for Helena Normanton, the first woman to join an Inn of Court in 1919.
