DPP worker sentenced to jail for breaking Official Secrets Act in relation to dissident murder
A civil servant working for the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has been given an 11-month prison sentence for breaking the Official Secrets Act by leaking information about the prosecution of a suspected murderer.
Jonathan Lennon, 35, was found guilty in May on four counts of disclosing information to three named men about the arrest of a suspect in a case concerning the 2013 murder of dissident republican Peter Butterly.
An eight-day non-jury trial took place before Judge John Hughes in Dublin District Court.
Following medical reports, the judge imposed a 11-month prison sentence with the final month suspended, The Times reports.
However, Mr Lennon was released after lodging a notice of appeal.
