Dr Michael O’Flaherty joins UCD as adjunct professor
The Irish head of the EU Fundamental Rights Agency (FRA), Dr Michael O’Flaherty, has joined UCD Sutherland School of Law as an adjunct professor.
Dr O’Flaherty was appointed in 2015 as director of the FRA, the independent centre of reference and excellence for promoting and protecting human rights in the EU.
He has also served as chief commissioner of the Northern Ireland Human Rights Commission (NIHRC), a member of the UN human rights committee and head of a number of UN human rights field operations.
An alumnus of University College Dublin, he was previously a professor of human rights law at the University of Galway.
In a statement, UCD Sutherland School of Law said: “His expertise in the area of human rights law, and the high profile roles he has held, make him a really important addition to our adjunct faculty. We look forward to the opportunity for our students to benefit from his insights and the depth of his knowledge.”
