Dr Síofra O'Leary
Former European Court of Human Rights president Dr Síofra O’Leary has joined UCD Sutherland School of Law as adjunct full professor.
An alumna of the university, Dr O’Leary served as a judge of the Strasbourg court from 2015 until 2024.
In 2022, she became its president — the first woman and the first Irish person in the court’s history to do so.
Prior to joining the court, she had a distinguished academic career and worked for two decades at the Court of Justice of the European Union.
Dr O’Leary is an honorary bencher of both the King’s Inns and Lincoln’s Inn, and an honorary fellow of Emmanuel College, Cambridge.
“We look forward to our students having the opportunity to engage with Dr O’Leary and gain insights from her outstanding career,” the law school said.
