NI: DUP leader selects justice committee chair and deputy chair
Two DUP MLAs have been selected as chair and deputy chair of the Northern Ireland Assembly’s justice committee.
Paul Frew replaces party colleague Alastair Ross as chair of the committee, which will scrutinise the work of new Justice Minister Claire Sudgen, elected by MLAs yesterday.
Mr Frew told Causeway News: “I look forward to the role and the part I will play in shaping the Justice system in Northern Ireland.
“My job of course is to scrutinise the Minister of Justice and Department and I will do that to the best of my ability, but the Committee is also there to assist and advise the Minister and Department. I will do that also in equal measure.”
Pam Cameron will be deputy chair of the committee.
Ms Cameron yesterday took to Twitter to say she was “delighted to have been appointed” by DUP leader Arlene Foster.
Mr Frew was appointed as a member of the justice committee in October 2014, while Ms Cameron is new to the committee.
