Fitzgerald announces 2017 funding for victims of crime

Justice Minister Frances Fitzgerald has announced the 2017 Victims of Crime Office funding scheme for organisations working with victims of crime.

Announcing the scheme, Ms Fitzgerald said: “I am delighted to announce the funding application scheme for 2017 for organisations helping victims of crime.”

She added: “The work that these organisations do across the country helps to reduce the trauma experienced by victims of crime and help them to move on with their lives and I am proud to support their invaluable efforts.”

An additional €250,000 in funding is being made available in 2017 over and above the 2016 allocation, bringing the total funding available in 2017 to €1.712 million.

Ms Fitzgerald said: “This funding increase will assist community and voluntary organisations in meeting the additional demands for support services, such as the provision of information on the rights of victims and court accompaniment, arising from the implementation of the provisions of the EU Victims Directive.”

The Victims of Crime Office invites applications for funding from registered charities, voluntary/community groups and other bodies which provide or have proposals for the provision of services or assistance to victims of crime.

Applicants for funding must be either a registered charity or a limited company. Joint applications between two or more groups are welcome.
