Five men and five women elected to Bar Council of Ireland
Five men and five women have been elected to the Bar Council of Ireland, leading to a gender-balanced council for the first time.
Senior counsel Micheál P O’Higgins, Sara Phelan, Séamus Clarke, Denise Brett and Tim O’Leary have been elected to the Inner Bar Panel.
Dara Hayes, Paul Gunning, Mema Byrne, Anita Finucane and Tracy Ennis Faherty have been elected to the Outer Bar Panel.
Following the election, Ms Byrne tweeted: “It’s a fantastic day when [the council] has 50:50 men and women - reflecting the Bar’s composition.
“I’m delighted to have the privilege of representing my colleagues and I look forward to working with new colleagues.”
