Flanagan blasts ‘megaphone diplomacy’ as US-North Korea tensions flare
Justice Minister Charlie Flanagan has urged the United States and North Korea to “scale down” the “megaphone diplomacy” between the two countries amid an escalation of hostile rhetoric.
Mr Flanagan said it was “important in the context of international relations that any disputes or differences of opinion can be dealt with around the table with all the parties”.
The former foreign affairs minister contrasted this approach with “the type of megaphone diplomacy which in the circumstances of recent times is entirely unhelpful and scary”.
He suggested that the current dispute between the US and North Korea could be resolved through the United Nations.
He added: “I believe it’s important that the current language be scaled down and that the current threat be weakened.”
