NI: Former solicitor’s details being used in employment scam
A former Northern Ireland solicitor’s details are being used as part of an employment scam targeting the UK health sector, the PSNI has warned.
The Law Society of Northern Ireland has circulated a report from the PSNI Cyber Crime Centre, which said it has been made aware of the use of details and credentials of a former solicitor as part of an employment scam targeting non-UK resident workers.
The scammers created a fake hospital website that offered a contact for “Longstone Hospital”, targeting those interested in working in the UK health sector.
As part of the offer, those interested are asked to pay a fee to a fictitious solicitor to obtain various documents required to process its “too good to be true” employment offer.
PSNI reported that the scammers often use legitimate solicitor names and addresses or even copied webpages to appear legitimate.
The Cyber Crime Unit encourages any instances of fraud to be reported to Action Fraud.
