Galway academic Dr Brian Tobin promoted to associate professor
Dr Brian Tobin has been promoted to associate professor/senior lecturer at University of Galway School of Law.
A lecturer in family and child law as well as equity and trusts, he previously received the CBPPL Award for Excellence in Teaching and Learning in 2023 and the Dean’s Award for Inclusive Teaching in 2021.
He holds LLB, LLM and PhD degrees from Trinity College Dublin and a postgraduate certificate in teaching and learning in higher education from the University of Galway.
Dr Tobin’s first book, The Legal Recognition of Same-Sex Relationships: Emerging Families in Ireland and Beyond (Oxford: Hart, 2023) was launched at University of Galway last year by Mr Justice Gerard Hogan of the Supreme Court, who described it as “scholarship at its finest in terms of avant garde family law”.
At the University of Galway, Dr Tobin has previously acted as the deputy head of the School of Law, the director of student career development, and he is currently the programme director for the BCL. He is also currently a member of the university’s research ethics committee.
