Garda file on Moriarty Tribunal sent to prosecutors

An Garda Síochána has sent a file to prosecutors following the conclusion of its lengthy criminal investigation into the findings of the Moriarty Tribunal.

The tribunal of inquiry was established in 1997 to investigate the financial dealings of former taoiseach Charles Haughey and former government minister Michael Lowry.

Mr Justice Michael Moriarty, the High Court judge appointed to carry out the investigation, published his final report in 2011, which was subsequently referred by the government to the gardaí.

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions will now decide whether to bring any criminal charges arising from the Garda investigation.
