Garda reform ‘must move at a greater pace’
Reform of An Garda Síochána must continue at a “greater pace”, Justice Minister Charlie Flanagan has said in the wake of the publication of a new Policing Authority report.
The Policing Authority has produced its third progress report on Garda implementation of the recommendations in the Garda Inspectorate’s report, Changing Policing in Ireland.
He said: “As the report makes clear, while there has been welcome progress in key areas including victim services, significant improvements are required in respect of the pace of implementation of the Garda Inspectorate’s recommendations by An Garda Síochána.
Mr Flanagan added: “The Policing Authority is performing an important task in overseeing this process and in supporting the Gardaí in implementing the reform agenda.
“I have made it clear that implementation of the ambitious reform programme must continue and, indeed, must move at a greater pace, to ensure the best possible policing services to the people of Ireland.”
