Gardaí call off strike to consider pay proposals
The Garda Representative Association (GRA) and the Association of Garda Sergeants and Inspectors have called off planned strike action today in order to consider recommendations from the Labour Court.
The Irish Times reports that a pay rise worth several thousand euro was proposed by the Labour Court late last night.
The proposal includes a new €15 payment for every day of annual leave taken by rank-and-file gardaí.
It also includes the immediate restoration of the €4,000 rent allowance for recent Garda recruits, with rent allowance integrated into core pay for all gardaí from January 2017.
It also recommended that the new €1,459 payment for gardaí to attend briefings prior to starting their shifts should also be introduced in January, earlier than previously anticipated.
The GRA will meet on Monday to discuss the proposals. Justice Minister Frances Fitzgerald thanked the Workplace Relations Commission and the Labour Court for helping to avert the strike.
