Government agrees to establish judicial appointments commission
The existing Judicial Appointments Advisory Board will be replaced with a new judicial appointments commission under Government plans, The Irish Times reports.
The new commission will have an independent chair selected by the Public Appointments Service and approved by an Oireachtas committee.
The commission’s nominations for judicial posts will remain subject to approval by TDs.
The reform measure was reportedly secured by Independent TD Shane Ross in exchange for his support for the Government.
Mr Ross was not available for comment when contacted by ILN.
