Government nominates four judges for superior courts
The Government has nominated four people for appointment as judges on the Supreme Court, Court of Appeal and High Court.
Ms Justice Mary Finlay Geoghegan has been nominated for appointment to the Supreme Court, leaving the Court of Appeal which she joined in 2014.
Mr Justice Paul Gilligan, currently of the High Court, has been nominated to take her place in the Court of Appeal.
Meanwhile, David Barniville SC and Michael MacGrath SC have been nominated to take up positions on the High Court bench.
Mr Barniville, a former chairman of the Council of The Bar of Ireland, is nominated to replace Ms Justice Margaret Heneghan, who retired last month, while Mr MacGrath is nominated to replace Mr Justice Henry Abbott, who is due to retire in December.
