Government nominates Mr Justice Hogan for ECJ Advocate-General post
Mr Justice Gerard Hogan has been nominated as an Advocate-General of the European Court of Justice by the Government.
The Government made the decision at a meeting yesterday but before he can be appointed he will be assessed by a panel established by the EU.
Ireland can nominate a candidate for the post to serve between October 2018 and October 2024.
The court comprises 28 judges and 11 advocates-general, who are appointed by the governments of the member states for renewable terms of six years.
Advocates-general present ‘opinions’, with which the court usually concurs.
Mr Justice Hogan was educated at University College Dublin (UCD) as well as the University of Pennsylvania and the Honorable Society of King’s Inns.
