Government report recommends legalising e-scooters
Electric scooters should be made legal to use on Irish roads, a Government report has recommended.
The report was commissioned by the Road Safety Authority (RSA) and was submitted to Transport Minister Shane Ross in June, The Irish Times reports.
Researchers examined the legal framework governing e-scooters in various other jurisdictions, particularly in Europe, and concluded that e-scooters should be allowed on Irish roads, albeit with a strict regime of licenses, speed restrictions and visibility requirements.
An Garda Síochána reportedly told researchers that they opposed legalisation.
According to The Irish Times, Mr Ross is expected to announce a public consultation on e-scooters in the autumn.
