Government yet to announce terms of reference for Olympics inquiry
Talks over the retired judge who will chair the non-statutory inquiry into the ongoing Olympics ticket controversy are set to continue.
Sports Minister Shane Ross was expected to announce the terms of reference today, but RTÉ reports they have yet to be finalised.
The inquiry follows a scandal over the mis-selling of Olympics tickets in Rio, where Brazilian authorities have made a number of arrests.
Draft terms prepared by the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport and Attorney General Máire Whelan were reportedly circulated internally on Monday ahead of further talks on Tuesday.
The twelve-week inquiry will be chaired by a retired judge, but there is not yet agreement on who that judge should be.
The Government has also debated the benefits of including a clause allowing for the investigation to develop into a statutory inquiry if necessary, which would have the power to compel witnesses and demand documents if relevant bodies refused to co-operate.
The Olympic Council of Ireland (OCI) has said it will co-operate fully with the judge-led investigation.
