Helen McEntee returns as justice minister after maternity leave
Helen McEntee has been reinstated as Ireland’s justice minister following the end of her maternity leave.
Mrs McEntee had become the first-ever Irish government minister to give birth in office when she had a baby in April.
Social protection minister Heather Humphreys took responsibility for the Department of Justice for six months from the beginning of May until the end of October.
Mrs Humphreys tweeted: “Delighted that my friend and colleague Helen McEntee is back in her role as minister for justice. It has been a privilege to hold the position in Helen’s absence and I just want to thank the team at the Department of Justice for their support.”
In a video message posted to Instagram, Mrs McEntee said she was “really looking forward to getting back to work”.
