High Court and Court of Appeal vacancies filled
Barristers Úna Ní Raifeartaigh SC and Paul Coffey SC have been nominated for appointment as High Court judges, The Irish Times reports.
They will fill the vacancies created by the increase in total number of High Court judges from 35 to 37 under the Courts Act 2015.
Justice Minister Frances Fitzgerald has said the extra judges “will lead to greater efficiency and result in reduced waiting times for cases to be heard across all areas of business”.
Ms Ní Raifeartaigh is Ireland’s top-earning prosecutor, receiving a total of €357,002 from the State in 2015.
Meanwhile, Mr Justice John Hedigan has been nominated to take up the Court of Appeal vacancy created by Mr Justice Peter Kelly’s appointment as president of the High Court.
Mr Justice Hedigan was appointed a High Court judge in 2007.
