NI: Ibrahim Halawa to speak at Belfast Festival
Ibrahim Halawa, the Irish citizen who was detained in Egypt for four years during an international campaign for his release, will speak at this year’s Belfast International Arts Festival.
The full festival programme is set to be launched tomorrow, organisers say, but Patrick Corrigan let Mr Halawa’s participation slip on Twitter.
Mr Corrigan, Northern Ireland programme director for Amnesty International, said Mr Halawa would discuss “the Rabaa massacre, his incarceration in Egypt and the campaign to secure his freedom”.
Irish Legal News spoke to Mr Halawa’s solicitor, Darragh Mackin, for a feature on the case last September.
