In pictures… Barristers commemorate life of John Philpot Curran
Over 100 guests attended a commemoration dinner held by The Bar of Ireland and The Honorable Society of King’s Inns to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the death of John Philpott Curran.
Mr Curran (1750-1817) was an Irish orator, politician, wit, lawyer and judge, who held the office of Master of the Rolls in Ireland.
Guests at the dinner include Attorney General Séamus Woulfe SC, senior members of the judiciary and members of The Bar of Ireland.
The dinner was followed the next day by a wreath-laying ceremony at Mr Curran’s gravestone in Glasnevin Cemetery.
Turlough O’Donnell SC, Jane McGowan BL and Amy Deane BL read excerpts of Mr Curran’s speeches, including “Speech on the Right of Election of Lord Mayor of the City of Dublin” (1790).
