In pictures… HOMS sponsors UL v Cambridge moot
Students from University of Limerick and University of Cambridge competed in a mooting competition organised by UL Law Society in conjunction with UL School of Law and sponsored by HOMS Solicitors.
Pat McInerney, senior associate solicitor at the firm, took up the role of president of the European Court of Human Rights, presiding over the case along with Jack Nicholas BL and Dr Norah Burns of UL School of Law. The case itself was focused on articles 8 and 10 of the ECHR.
Niamh Shanahan and Bridget Howard of University of Limerick represented the applicants, while Isaac Freckleton and Meredith Philips from University of Cambridge represented the respondents.
At the end of the day, the respondents from University of Cambridge won, while Best Speaker was awarded to Ms Shanahan from UL.
Mr McInerney said: “The quality of the arguments and the immense preparation put in by both teams made it a very difficult decision.”
The competition was photographed by Shinu John of the University of Limerick Photography Society, who kindly agreed to have their photos reproduced in Irish Legal News today.
